Dear Community Members,
Please join us today in welcoming Carlos Bossard as the new Executive Director of the Haitian
American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC). He joined the team in February 2019 as the Collection
Specialist and will continue his work as HAMOC’s next leader. Since starting at the museum,
Carlos has cataloged our library and continues to grow our collection database. His passion for
museums and excitement to expand HAMOC’s reach will provide us with the energy we need to
keep moving the museum forward.
Originally from Roseville, Minnesota, Carlos earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography
from the Art Institutes International Minnesota in 2017 and held his first solo exhibition in
downtown Minneapolis. After working in commercial photography, he moved to Chicago to
further his education. Carlos recently graduated with a Master of Arts in Museum and Exhibition
Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His Capstone Project focused on creating
more diverse and inclusive museum practices and highlighted HAMOC as a museum excelling
in the field. In his new leadership role, Carlos will utilize his academic studies, hands-on
experience and exert his passion for the institution to ensure the museum continues to be a key
voice for the Haitian society in the United States and the world.

Message from Carlos:
Hello everyone.
I hope during this time of uncertainty you all are staying healthy and keeping good spirits.
When I started interning at the Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC), I knew it was
exactly where I needed to be to build my professional museum career. The staff welcomed me
with open arms and a warm smile every time I entered the space. They listened to my ideas and
allowed me to take the lead on projects. I am grateful to have learned so much about museum
work from an unique environment.
Becoming the Executive Director of HAMOC is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I am constantly
reminded of how fantastic the Haitian community is here in Chicago and I want to keep growing
HAMOC as a main anchor point. Our small, 500-square-foot museum has a big voice. I see our
impact on Chicago and am thankful that I have the privilege to keep building our name.
As we gradually return to work and a new way of life, I want to assure you that the Haitian
American Museum of Chicago will be here to support you. We have a great team of talented
individuals who are constantly working on new additions to the museum. We have a lot in store
for the remainder of the year that we are excited to share with you.
I look forward to getting to know the HAMOC community and continue my own education and
museum management expertise. Your health and safety are important to us, and we are
working on reopening our doors as soon as possible. We will let you know when this time
comes. Until then, please reach out to me whenever I can be of help.
Stay safe.
Best,
Carlos Bossard
