In 2022, the Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC) became one of eleven agencies in the City of Chicago to join the Legal Protection Fund (LPF) Community Navigators Program.  Through this program, HAMOC can provide referrals for undocumented and immigrant individuals (who reside in the City of Chicago only) to the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) for a free consultation with a member of their team. NIJC can assist with the following legal immigration services:
Removal (deportation) proceedings
Adjustment of Status
DACA renewals
Protection based immigration (U visa, T visa, VAWA, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, Defensive Asylum)
Naturalization/Citizenship
Renewal of green cards
Temporary Protected Status
“Community Navigators” are trained volunteers from the LPF agencies that work within the community and provide outreach and education on immigration services (in the City of Chicago only). Community Navigators conduct these outreach and education efforts in schools, colleges, churches and any community space or event that will benefit the individuals who need the services, education and referrals.
